As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, have you taken time to thank God for His many blessings? We shouldn’t wait till Thanksgiving Day to do that, but it should be an ongoing daily practice.

I confess that I don’t do it enough. So last week I decided to start keeping a “Thank you, Jesus” journal. The journal is beside my bed and before I turn out the light at night, I write a thank you note to Jesus for something that day.

At first, I thought I would write a short thank you note, perhaps for just one thing. But as I started doing this, I realized how much I have to thank God for each day and some of the notes are quite lengthy as I realized just how much I’ve seen God’s hand at work each day in and around me.

I encourage you to start a “Thank you, Jesus” journal. Not to write prayer requests in, but to write answers to prayer and evidence of God’s sovereign hand at work in ways you didn’t even pray for.

Consider these questions as you write your “thank you notes”:

  • How has God answered prayer today?
  • How has He turned a faith-stretching situation or disappointment into something good?
  • How have you seen His hand at work today in small or big ways?

Perhaps you are disappointed with how things turned out today. Can you still thank Him for His sovereignty, even though you can’t understand what He’s doing at this time?

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks. But don’t stop when Thanksgiving is over. Thank Him every day. I have found that the more I thank Him, the more I find to thank Him for.

I invite you to leave a comment below with one thing you’re thankful for today.

Happy Thanksgiving!
