Are you feeling anxious these days? I have to admit I’ve had my fair share of anxious thoughts this year. 2020 has definitely been challenging for all of us.
Earlier this year during our safer-at-home months, I did a series of video devotions with mugs for our Women’s Ministry. As I pulled out this mug this morning, I was reminded of that devotion and want to share it with you today. (If you’re reading this post via email, you’ll have to click here to go to my website to see the picture.)
This mug has a picture on the front of a cat chilling out, relaxed. He’s not worried or anxious about anything going on around him. I like to imagine that his owner is standing right in front of him, telling him everything’s going to be okay. For all we know, there may be German Shepherds running toward him, but he’s calm right where he is because he knows his master is right there. I want to be like that cat on my mug—calm in my circumstances and confident in my Lord.
This mug reminds me of 1 Peter 5:6–7:
“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
2 things we are instructed to do:
- Trust (His sovereign hand).
- Throw (our anxiety on Him).
1 thing to remember:
- He cares for you.
If we believe God cares for us, then we can relax, trust Him, and give Him all the things that cause us to be anxious. These are challenging times, but worrying and fretting won’t accomplish anything. We have to trust His sovereign hand and rest in His care and love for us.
Write down what you’re anxious about today, and then write 1 Peter 5:6–7 below them. Trust His sovereign hand, Throw your anxiety on Him. Remember He cares for you. We can be confident and calm (just like the picture of the cat on the mug) as we trust our Master.
